May 2021 Newsletter - Local Homeschool Days & Portfolio Information
Dear friends,
The end of your homeschool year is almost here! I can't wait to hear about how your year has been when we meet for your year-end evaluation.
Yes, evaluations have begun! I have a few spots left, so if you have not scheduled yours, you can do that at my website. Remember, the deadline to submit your evaluator's report to your school district superintendent is June 30.
As you might know from my recent video, I will accept a paper portfolio OR an electronic portfolio, although the interviews will be virtual this year. If you prefer the traditional paper portfolio, I have a waterproof box on my front porch where you can drop off / pick up your portfolio a few days before / after our session. I provide my address in the confirmation when you schedule your appointment. If you prefer an electronic portfolio, please submit a link to a sharable site or send a PDF file to rootstowingsedu@gmail.com
In addition, if you still would like to get some PA History into your school year, I have a one-hour zoom class on May 14. I have a second option on May 17. You can register here. I pack a lot of information into the hour, plus you get a PDF packet full of coloring pages, printables, and internet links I have compiled for further exploration of our state!
I'd like to share a few resources with you that I've recently come across. First, if you live within driving distance of Philadelphia, here is a list compiled of all the homeschool days offered in the area. I started compiling a list myself prior to the pandemic, but gave up as the world shut down. I'm glad someone has taken the time to list these! Second, although some of us may be Zoomed out (Zoom gloom, Zoom fatigue, Zoombie Brain....anyone?) ... you may still want a virtual field trip on a rainy day this summer. So here is one of the best compilations I have seen. Lastly, I have been teaching on Outschool now for over a year. It's a great platform to share your expertise as a homeschool parent to a larger audience. I have a couple friends who have an interest to teach on Outschool and would like some guidance. If you want to learn more, please let me know by replying to this email. If there is enough interest, maybe we can do a group call.
I AM SO PROUD OF YOU. Choosing to stay engaged in your child's education during this past year is an investment that will have future returns. You are on the home stretch now! I hope to see many of you soon!
